Paula Cahill is a linear abstract painter whose practice is distinguished by dark blue fields traversed by a single, continuous line. These works evoke the quiet luminosity of bioluminescent marine life emerging from deep oceanic darkness, situating her formal investigations within a contemplative and spatially immersive visual language.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Cahill relocated to the Northeast to pursue formal training in the visual arts. She was awarded both merit- and academic-based scholarships during her studies. Cahill holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Tyler School of Art and Architecture. She furthered her education at the Art Students League of New York and Parsons School of Design, where she received a merit scholarship as a transfer student.
In addition to her studio practice, Cahill has contributed to arts education and critical discourse. She has served as an undergraduate critic and speaker at Temple University and has been invited as a visiting artist at the Westtown School in West Chester, Pennsylvania. She has also presented artist talks for the Abington Art Center and the Abington School District.
Cahill’s award-winning work has been exhibited extensively in both solo and group exhibitions throughout the Northeast. Recent solo exhibitions include It Is What It Isn’t at the Delaware Contemporary, One-liner at Boston Street Gallery in Philadelphia, and Linespace, presented by Hot•Bed Philly. Her paintings are held in numerous distinguished public and private collections across the United States, including the Charles Library Collection at Temple University, the PNC Bank Collection, the Capital One Corporate Collection, and Brandywine Realty Trust.
